“Half of life is lost in charming others. The other half is lost in going through anxieties caused by others. Leave this play. You have played enough.” Rumi
If you ask my parents, they’ll tell you I was a charming kid. If you asked my teachers to describe me, they’d say I was a people pleaser (aka charming).
If you asked my soon-to-be ex-wife, she’d say I was charming.
I’d say I was insecure and seeking recognition of being "special.”
And don’t get me started on my anxiety disorder… not a day of peace mentally.
In short, my never-ending mental chatter was “never good enough.”
This low-level, chronic anxiety made everything in my life a chore.
I’d have to talk to a therapist to unpack it all, but that’s how I was in the world for the first half of my life.
Today, I don’t feel compelled to play that game.
In his book The Second Mountain, David Brooks describes the two mountains we all climb.
The first mountain is egoic.
We strive for the things our culture and our families deem essential.
The good education, the good job, the nice cars and homes, and financial security.
This first mountain is important and if you’ve ever seen Grant Cardone at 10X he’s got a full stadium of young people that are climbing it!
However, if you were lucky enough to have people in your life that let you know you were lovable and special without having to “do” anything you switch to the second mountain in mid-life.
The second mountain is about purpose, community, faith, and love.
It’s a harder mountain to climb, but infinitely more deep and meaningful to yourself and others.
For those of you attending one of our next land investing BootCamps in August or October, you will notice that most of the people in the room are on that 2nd mountain.
They’re attracted to a passive income for the time freedom to spend even more time with their family and friends.
To spend even more time donating to their favorite charities and creating a legacy.
To spend even more time doing what they love in life.
They want the passive income for security as well, but it no longer leads as they have already climbed that first mountain and have shed the egoic identity.
If you’re still on the first mountain fueled by a sense of accomplishment and showing the world and your family you’re “special”…
Keep climbing. It’s just as important as the 2nd mountain.
I’ll be waving to you to join me on the 2nd mountain as the view is clearer and more beautiful than any words can express.
“Joy tends to involve some transcendence of self. It’s when the skin barrier between you and some other person or entity fades away and you feel fused together. Joy is present when mother and baby are gazing adoringly into each other’s eyes, when a hiker is overwhelmed by beauty in the woods and feels at one with nature, when a gaggle of friends are dancing deliriously in unison. Joy often involves self-forgetting.”
In this Land Geek Student Success Story episode, Mark goes one on one with recent coaching graduate, Michelle Bridger. Together they talk about the specifics of Michelle’s gains over her short time in the land business.
You’ll want to hear:
  • How and when Michelle got started
  • What her flight school results were
  • What convinced her to join the coaching program
  • How many hours a week she works on her business
  • How much she spends per month on her team and tools
  • What she’s been able to accomplish since she’s started the business
Michelle also shares so many more ins and outs of her business, details on her favorite deal, plus her advice for those just getting started.
