“It is here, standing at the crossroads of Should and Must, that we feel the enormous reality of our fears, and this is the moment when many of us decide against following our intuition, turning away from that place where nothing is guaranteed, nothing is known, and everything is possible.”
-Elle Luna
Hi everyone! Mark is on vacation, so I get the pleasure of sharing some thoughts with you this week.
My wife, Erin, and I took a leap of faith almost seven years ago today when we purchased the Investor Toolkit. Nothing was guaranteed when we made that investment, but so much was possible.
I could go on and on about how this business has transformed our lives, but I wanted to share with you a new perspective that we encountered last month.
I like to think of myself as a healthy individual. I exercise regularly and try to watch what I eat. As the community knows, I do enjoy a bourbon from time to time, but I try to limit that to LIVE Land Geek events and maybe one other night a week!
However, it’s always in the back of my mind, especially since my Dad passed eight months ago, that things just aren’t guaranteed in life.
Last month, after an active weekend yard work and spending time with my family, I started experiencing severe abdominal pain. It got worse and worse to the point I had to go to the emergency room. As a physical therapist, I’m used to being the healthcare provider. It’s always humbling for me when I’m on the other side of things. After a barrage of tests, it was determined I had a very large blockage in my large intestine. What was it? We didn’t know for sure. Surgery would be needstraight away, and there was the possibility of something sinister.
My surgery went well. The mass was removed and sent to pathology. For days I would not know the results of the test, but everything came back negative.
I AM GRATEFUL.
As I was recuperating in the hospital, dealing with significant pain and post-op protocols, a very powerful thing dawned on me.
If this would have happened seven years ago, the experience would have been completely different. Had I been thrust into a situation like this, there would’ve been profound stress above and beyond the physical nature of my illness. You see, we didn’t have a lot in the bank. I wouldn’t have been able to work for 2 months, and any short-term disability program would have replaced only 50% of my income at the time. To add to my stress, I would’ve been tasked with handing off patient care of for tens of individuals to other providers. I kept asking myself, “What would I have done?”
Knowing who I was then, I have no doubt that my physical illness would’ve caused significant mental anguish and emotional stress. And my family would have suffered as well.
But because of this business, because we grew our passive income to the point where it exceeded our fixed expenses in life, and because we have a team running our land business, I felt at peace lying in that hospital bed. And I felt like I was truly the captain of my fate when it came to providing for myself and my family.
You see, we did sales while I was in the hospital. Because our owner financing deals are automated, our income was guaranteed.
This business has is given us financial security. It has given us time freedom and location freedom. And now it has given us peace during a time of tribulation.
As stated above, nothing in life is guaranteed. I gained so much perspective from my experience last month. I’m on the mend, I’m grateful for each day, and I realize now more than ever before the power of this business. If you are looking for similar results in your life, we encourage you to take that leap of faith as we did seven years ago. Nothing is guaranteed, but everything is possible.
