Barn’s Burnt Down – Now I Can See the Moon” -Mizuta Masahide, a 17th century Japanese poet and samurai
You’ve heard me talk about the Japanese concept of kaizen or continuous improvement.
But… I bet you’ve never heard me speak about the Japanese concept of kintsugi.
Kintsugi is the concept of when valuable pottery breaks instead of hiring someone to glue something together to make it look brand new they highlight the breaks and cracks with gold!

The idea is when its rebuilt the value should be greater than before it was even broken.
How many times a day are you hard on yourself?
Do you ever suffer from perfectionism and when you inevitably fall short, you feel terrible about yourself?
Do you think you should feel or look better than you do because of some arbitrary cultural standard?
Do you “should” all over yourself? I should be working out every day, I should be more patient with my spouse and kids. I should be meditating…
Do you think to yourself I should be farther ahead on the land business than I am?
The good news is you’re like kintsugi.
Kintsugi is simply a physical manifestation of resilience.
Each day you get a new 24 hours to rebuild yourself with gold.
When you inevitably fall short because you’re human, think about the concept of kintsugi.
How can you rebuild yourself to be even better than you were yesterday?
  • Maybe you read a book that fills you up intellectually and or spiritually.
  • Maybe you take a small walk in nature.
  • Maybe you meditate for 10 minutes with no expectations and just enjoy watching your thoughts.
  • Maybe you post more ads in your land business.
You probably don’t expect others to be perfect and–in fact–you feel closer to your friends and family when they show their “cracks” and are vulnerable with you.
You and I are just beautiful messes…
Whatever it is you’re thinking is broken in your life you now have a new concept to apply to fix yourself and make yourself even more valuable than you were yesterday!
“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.” ― Nelson Mandela

On this week’s episode of The Art of Passive Income, Mark and Scott welcome real estate investor, best-selling author, professional speaker, former financial advisor, and business owner, Rachel Richards to the show.
Rachel Richards is a real estate investor, best-selling author, professional speaker, and business owner. She began investing in real estate in 2017 and currently owns 35 rental units. At age 27, Rachel is already retired and living off a five-figure monthly passive income stream.

It has been sold and downloaded over 10,000 times and has over 400 five-star reviews on Amazon. Her book “Money Honey” is a sassy and humorous take on personal finance that has resonated with female millennials.
In her newest book, “Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement,” Rachel dives deep into the topic of passive income and financial independence. -Rachel Richards
Rachel also shares some of the worst advice she has heard given to millennials in her area of expertise.
Mark: My tip of the week is to learn more and check out Rachel Richard’s books, programs, and blogs at
Scott: Check out, it’s a TikTok for Real Estate!
Rachel: My tip is one of my all-time favorite books called The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ Demarco, it really helps shift my mindset and to be able to see the world not from the consumer perspective but from a producer perspective, and how entrepreneurship can help you build massive wealth. So it’s an eye-opening book and it also has some income ideas, I highly recommend that one.
