T- Thoughts
A giraffe has a black tongue twenty-seven inches long and no vocal cords. A giraffe has nothing to say. He just goes on giraffing.”
I started watching the nature show Tiny on Apple TV. Paul Rudd narrates it and its incredibly beautiful filmography with stunning time-lapse shots. For example, a fire breaks out in the Australian outback and suddenly the fire hawks come swooping down to eat the tiny animals fleeing the area to survive. You see all the drama play out as if you’re right there.
The animals escape the fire hawks, but a few don’t. Some die in the fire. It’s just nature. The animals are totally present solving problems in real-time to survive. They take nothing personally. Watching the brutality of nature, the diversity of nature, the symbiotic relationship the animals have with nature is amazing to witness.
How is this helpful? For me, it helps me stay grounded, grateful, and more present.
Every time I get stressed about a deal, an issue with some software, or just life throwing the inevitable setback my way I like to think about the animals in Tiny. They don’t get upset, they don’t complain, they don’t worry. They just solve the problem in front of them. In short, nature is just neutral. I want to take that neutral state and apply it as much as I can in my own life to increase my happiness.
This way, I can use my mind as a tool when needed. I can plan, analyze, cooperate, collaborate in the ways animals are unable to yet still learn their lessons of survival and being totally present.
Next time you’re getting emotional about an issue in your relationships, the land business, or just someone cutting you off in traffic, go home and take a few minutes to watch a nature show or better yet take a walk in nature. I bet you’ll feel instantly better and more at peace.
“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better. ” Albert Einstein
