T- Thoughts
Since I’m taking the month of July off I thought I’d give everyone a sneak preview of the upcoming book Dirt Rich 2 The Next Plot - How to scale your land business over the next 4 issues. Here is the middle of Chapter 2 after we left off discussing Solo Economic Dependency:
Solo Economic Showdown: Penn and Teller vs. Wink, Goldman, and Stanton
Who would you rather be, Penn and Teller or Chris Wink, Matt Goldman, and Phil Stanton? The answer might surprise you.
Penn and Teller are all over Las Vegas and TV. They’re known around the world and make a tremendous living.
I don’t know how many shows they do a year but it’s a lot. And although they clearly love what they do, at some point, it has to get tiring. I bet you after the thousandth time performing the same illusions, they’d love to not have to show up to make money.
What about Chris Wink, Matt Goldman, and Phil Stanton? Do you even know who they are? Most people don’t. In 1987 the trio started performing a live show together, combining high-energy live music and art performances. Their schtick was to perform while wearing blue masks and body paint. If you haven’t guessed it by now, Wink, Goldman, and Stanton are the creators of the show, Blue Man Group.
To this day, hardly anyone knows the creators of The Blue Man Group. I even had to look them up to make sure I got their names right. But they have built a real business that continues to make them money even without them showing up. Like Penn and Teller, you can buy tickets and see Blue Man Group perform live. Unlike Penn and Teller, you can catch a Blue Man Group show in cities around the world without Wink, Goldman, or Stanton needing to be there.
The trio doesn’t need to be at any show to make money. All they need is seven to nine performers willing to paint themselves blue and follow their formula. They set up their business to run without them. That setup allows them to create passive income every single month.
Penn and Teller have solo economic dependency. Their income depends on their ability to work. Wink, Goldman, and Stanton do not. Their income will continue to come in month after month without them having to do a thing.
If you want to build a real land business without solo economic dependency, you need to follow the Blue Man Group model.
